Sutter Gould Medical Foundation Begins Second Phase of Stockton Medical Plaza Development

    September 23, 2008

STOCKTON – Just over two years after Sutter Gould Medical Foundation (SGMF) physicians and staff began seeing patients in their 70,000 square-foot, three-story medical office building on the corner of Hammer Lane and Don Avenue, groundbreaking is underway for Phase Two of the project.

SGMF announced today that work has begun to build a second medical office building as well as an ambulatory surgery center on the property at 2505 W. Hammer Lane. These new facilities at the Stockton Medical Plaza will lead to further enhancement of services, bringing more physicians to one medical campus, and offer even more convenience for patients.

    Specialty Medical Office
The specialty medical office building, a 59,000 square foot addition, will be connected to the current structure that already houses imaging and laboratory services and physician offices for primary care physicians.

“When phase two is complete, a Sutter Gould patient coming to our Stockton facility may not need to leave the inside of our facility to obtain a variety of necessary services,” said Bruce Tigner, chief operating officer for SGMF’s San Joaquin County operations. “For example, one of our patients can see her primary care doctor, walk down the hall and have lab work done, receive a CT scan and see her OB/Gyn right here at the Plaza.”

Scheduled to open in the fall of 2009, the $28 million dollar specialty facility will house SGMF’s obstetricians and gynecologists, general and vascular surgeons, urologists, and dermatologists. An urgent care center is also included in the construction project. The facility design allows for the addition of more specialties to better serve SGMF’s growing patient base in the Stockton area.

    Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC):
Concurrent construction is underway on the northeast corner of the campus for a 12,500 square foot outpatient surgery center. The center will contain 3 surgery suites and 2 procedure rooms and will be utilized by both SGMF specialists, including general surgeons, urologists and gynecologists, as well as other community specialists.

The ASC will cost $10.5 million to construct, and is scheduled to open in the spring of 2009.

Technology a part of the equation
As with all of SGMF’s new construction projects, the medical office building is equipped with new health technology features. EPIC, Sutter Gould’s electronic medical record system, allows Gould physicians to access a patient’s medical record instantly to review lab results, prior physician visits, and prescription histories. The computer resources at the physician’s fingertips also include PACS, a filmless picture archiving and communications system that allows Gould radiologists to share digital images and diagnoses instead of shipping X-ray film between locations.

SGMF patients can access key parts of their own medical records through a confidential, secure system by signing up for MySutterOnline. This service allows patients to view their health summary from the electronic health record, review physician instructions, receive laboratory and other test results, request prescription renewals and much more.

SGMF laboratory and imaging services utilize state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including a 64-slice CT scanner capable of cardiac and coronary artery studies, virtual colonoscopies and cutting-edge CT imaging.

Commitment to Northern California health care
These projects are one part of the Sutter Health network’s multi-billion-dollar plan to improve, replace or build dozens of Northern California community-based outpatient care centers and hospitals over the next 10 years. In Modesto, for example, Sutter Gould is currently building a replacement clinic at their 600 Coffee Road site to also open in 2009.

Sutter Gould Medical Foundation has care centers in Lodi and Tracy in San Joaquin County, as well as Modesto and many communities throughout Stanislaus County. SGMF is part of Sutter Health, a family of not-for-profit hospitals and physician organizations that share resources and expertise to advance health care quality. Providing personalized care in more than 100 communities throughout Northern California, the Sutter Health network is a regional leader in cardiac care, cancer treatment, orthopedics, obstetrics, and newborn intensive care, and is a pioneer in advanced patient safety technology.
